Lady Eagles Crumble to Fourth Seed in State Playoffs

The Lady Eagles fell to Central Cambria last Thursday night 42-33 in a D6 consolation game to determine third and fourth seedings for 3A state playoffs.

Senior Sydney Shaw scored a game-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers and added seven rebounds for Tyrone.

The Lady Eagles were hoping to get this win because fourth place would mean playing the first seed in district 7, while third place gave more of an easier path to the state championship.

We had a rough start, we couldn’t make shots

A slow start caused the Lady Eagles to get down enough to where they were not able to catch back up. Only at one point in the game, at the end of the first half, they were tied with Central Cambria, and Tyrone managed to take the lead by one point for a few minutes in the third quarter.

“We had a rough start, we couldn’t make shots,” said coach Luke Rhoades.

Tyrone feels they could have gotten this win, but did not play as well as they are able to, which caused them a loss in the end.

“I feel we played well, but we didn’t play a complete game,” said Sydney Shaw.

The Lady Eagles hope to bounce back from this 3 game losing streak on Friday against Neshannock in the first round of the state tournament,

“I think we should have won that game if we had played to our true potential, but [Central Cambria] deserved to win by the way they played. We hope to look for improvement with the game coming up on Friday,” said senior Reilly Ronan.

Tyrone looks to work on using their body more and becoming more physical at practice to prepare for the upcoming game.

“We have a lot of work to do, but we will benefit from another week of practice,” said Rhoades.

This loss dropped the Lady Eagles to 18-7 and enters them into the PIAA state playoffs as the fourth team from District 6.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Northern Allegheny on Friday afternoon to take on the Neshannock Lady Lancers. Tipoff will be at 6:00pm.
