Tyrone picked up a huge 2-1 win at Huntingdon in the district quarterfinals on May 17.  Led by the pitching of Jon Stroup and Brandon McClure, the Golden Eagles held off the Bearcats’ hitters.

Offensively, Tyrone had a slow night as the only players with hits were Brayden Parsons, Wyatt Kustenbauder, Owen Oakes, Connor McClure, and Brandon McClure.

But the pitching came through for Tyrone, holding Huntingdon’s Brock Bryson and Matthew Gutshall, hitless.

A couple of walks and a hit got the Bearcats’ lone run on the board in the fourth inning, but in the fifth, Connor McClure and Owen Oakes led off the inning with two hits. Braylon Plummer then bunted them over, and Coltyn Frye drove in McClure on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

Seven innings weren’t enough to decide this ball game. In the top of the eighth, catcher Brayden Parsons hit a clutch triple and scored on a flyout from Jon Stroup.

McClure then went 3 up, 3 down, and closed out the game for Tyrone, giving them the victory.

Tyrone advances to the district semifinals, where they will take on the 15-5 Bald Eagle Eagles in Wingate on May 22 in the District VI Semifinals.
