Tyrone never trailed in the battle of the birds, taking down Bald Eagle Area 73-61 at home on Monday, December 11.

Tyrone’s leading scorer was junior Drew Escala, who totaled 20 points with five three-pointers.  Also reaching double digits were junior Sam Crilly who totaled 19 points with multiple-and-one layups, followed by fellow junior Kendall Lehner who totaled 16 points along with seven rebounds.

“Everyone was hitting their shots, and when we move the ball really well we get open looks,” said junior forward Ashton Walk.

The Tyrone defense also looked much improved compared to the prior game where they gave up 79 points. Everyone was playing with much more intensity which helped the Golden Eagles create quick turnovers and easy fast-break layups.

The leading scorer for Bald Eagle was senior Dru Smith, who racked up 18 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Kane Wolf and senior Cam Watkins both added 10 points.

The first quarter featured an 18-11 Golden Eagle lead, sparked by Andrew Escala draining a couple of threes and Kendall Lehner making some put-back shots.

In the second quarter, Escala caught fire and made two more threes to lengthen the Tyrone lead.

Crilly also started to warm up and racked up 11 points just in the second quarter. Both of these players greatly contributed to the 36-22 Tyrone lead over Bald Eagle going into halftime.

“Our offense was starting to click, we were finding open shooters and they were hitting their shots,” said senior point guard Dravyn Crowell.

Unlike the week prior Tyrone did not lose their edge coming out of the half. The Golden Eagles continued their shooting streak and made five of their next six threes.

The Golden Eagles built a substantial lead by the end of the third quarter. Although Bald Eagle made a few shots it wasn’t enough for them to stay in contention.

By the middle of the fourth quarter and the game out of reach for Bald Eagle, Tyrone put in some players from the bench. This concluded the game for a 73-61 Tyrone victory.

This win improves the Golden Eagles to 2-1 and worsens Bald Eagles’ record to 0-3.

Tyrone is set to travel to Bellefonte to take on the 1-3 Red Raiders this Thursday at 7pm.
