The Tyrone Golden Eagles Boys Basketball team claimed a decisive 57-38 victory over Bellwood-Antis on February 9 in their home gym, pulling away with a strong second half in this heated LHAC rivalry rematch.
Leading 31-21 at halftime, Tyrone outscored the Blue Devils 26-17 after the break to secure the win and improve to 12-8.
Tyrone jumped out early, building a 19-8 lead after the first quarter with effective perimeter shooting and quick transition defense.
Eli Woomer hit three triples, Carter Gwinn added another from deep, and the Eagles controlled the paint to take a 31-21 halftime advantage.
“Home court fired us up from the start; this rivalry brought out our best tonight,” junior guard Mason Emigh said afterward.
Ashton Emigh led the charge with a game-high 19 points, driving effectively and hitting mid-range shots to spark a 16-7 third quarter that pushed the lead to 19. “Emigh took control when it mattered most,” teammate Ben Walk noted.
Tyrone’s defense tightened, limiting Bellwood to 17 second-half points while adding balanced scoring for the 19-point final margin.
Senior Brayden Parsons added, “We executed our halftime adjustments and didn’t let off the gas.”
Ben Walk contributed key inside buckets, and the Eagles’ depth showed in their team defense, holding Bellwood to 38 points on 15 field goals.
Tyrone shot efficiently, including four threes, and forced turnovers to maintain control throughout. The win solidifies their 12-8 record heading into the season’s final stretch.
Bellwood senior Martin Fatzinger led his team with 13 points, including a three-pointer, and Jackson Dorminy added 10 in their season finale, but Tyrone’s pressure proved too much as the Blue Devils finished 5-16 and have not beaten the Golden Eagles in the last 9 seasons.
