After a tough loss to a quality Hollidaysburg team on Monday night, Tyrone went to Philipsburg on Thursday focused on getting the win, and that’s exactly what they did, cruising to a 57-39 victory over the Mounties.

Senior Eli Woomer led all scorers with 15 points, junior Ben Walk scored 11, senior Ashton Emigh scored 8, and junior Carter Gwinn scored 8 for the Golden Eagles.

Tyrone had one of their best 3-point shooting nights of the year with nine threes. Woomer led with 5, Gwinn made 2, and Ben Walk and Owen Oakes each made one.

Philipsburg is a very physical team, and kept the game close early. It was tied 8-8 with three minutes left in the first quarter when three straight steals from Mason Emigh led to 6 points, which started the Golden Eagles’ run. Tyrone had a great second quarter and led by 20 points at halftime.

“The press started really working, which led to easy points for us and made everyone’s job easier on the offensive side of the ball,” junior Mason Emigh said.

Once the game reached the third quarter, the Eagles went up big and started the running clock, but P-O kept clawing back, cutting the final margin of victory to 18.

“We just need to execute better at the end of the game, and we will be in a good spot,” senior Eli Woomer said.

The Eagles are back in action tonight vs Penns Valley at home.
