Tyrone Area High School junior Layna Hess and senior Brayden Parsons demonstrated leadership and community spirit by organizing a donation drive to help local animal shelters and families with pets.
The student-led initiative ran from Nov. 23 through Dec. 19 and resulted in 1,556 items donated, showcasing the generosity and compassion of the Tyrone community.
“I wanted to make sure families were able to feed and care for their pets when it’s hard to buy food for themselves,” Hess said.
Items collected during the drive were distributed to three local organizations: the Tyrone Food Bank, the Humane Society, and Purfect Paws and Pals, helping to support both families and animals in need during the holiday season.
Parsons and Hess thanked several local businesses for their support, especially Tyrone Tractor Supply, Tyrone Milling, and The Brew, which all served as community drop-off points for donations.
“I was happy with how everything turned out. Seeing everyone come together to help families and pets in need for the holidays just shows how good a community we really have,” Parsons said.
Hess and Parsons organized, promoted, and managed the drive, inspiring students and community members alike to get involved.
Their efforts highlight the positive impact young leaders can have when they come together for a meaningful cause. They also would like to thank to everyone who participated, donated, and helped promote their project.
“The overwhelming response proves that Tyrone is a community that truly cares,” Parsons said.
