The Golden Eagle’s grapplers took last place out of seven teams at the Mountaineer duals on Saturday, January 10. However, senior Kyle Scott won all six of his matches in dominating fashion to win the tournament championship at 189 and the Outstanding Wrestler award for the second year in a row.
Scott continues his tear and is now 24-0 on the season and is currently ranked first in the state at 189 lbs.
“It’s an honor to be awarded with that ranking, but nothing changes; I still have to continue to push myself every day to get where I want to be,” Scott said.
For the rest of the Golden Eagles, Mason VanAllman won 5 of his 6 matches, and Tanner Walk won 4 of his 6 matches during the duals. Tyrone struggled at other weight classes, with nobody else being able to eclipse the .500 win margin.
In addition to Tyrone, the other schools represented at the tournament were Philipsburg-Osceola, Midd-West, Punxsutawney, Freedom Area, St. Mary’s, and Bedford.
Tyrone has a tough week coming up with three matches in three days in a row against Central, Bellwood, and West Branch. They will look to build off of this tournament and grow as a team and as individuals.
