In the final dual match of the year, the Golden Eagles took on the Philipsburg Mountaineers, losing 52-21 on Wednesday, February 4.
The lone winners for Tyrone were Kyle Scott, Mason Van Allman, Kyler Suhoney, and Miles Weber, who won by forfeit.
This was also Senior Night, and Tyrone seniors Kyle Scott, Parker DeStefano, and Miles Weber were honored in their last match in Tyrone’s gymnasium.
Scott has been a starter all four years of high school and has had one of the best wrestling careers in Tyrone history, amassing 152-26 career wins so far. He has reached the podium at states twice and is looking forward to his final shot at climbing to the top of the podium this season.
“It was very sad to wrestle my final match at home, but I’m ready to finish the season out strong and take these next steps in my life and wrestling career,” Scott said.
Head Coach Quentin Wright called Scott a “once-in-a-lifetime athlete and the reason for my sore back; he didn’t take it easy on me in practice. He has dedicated himself to being the best he can be.”
After high school, Scott will continue his academic and wrestling career at the University of Pittsburgh.
DeStefano has been a starter for 1 year, with a career record of 0-1
“It was fun and memorable as my last match as a Tyrone wrestler,” DeStefano said.
Head Coach Quentin Wright called Destefano “the friend that everyone needs; he is there for you at any time. Although he was nursing a previously hurt shoulder, he would come to practice most days to check in with the wrestling team.”
After high school, DeStefano will continue his academic career at Penn Tech for Electrical Construction
Miles Weber is also a senior. He has wrestled for 2 years and has a career record of 7-24.
“It was unfortunate that I didn’t have a match, but I was happy I was with everyone still there,” Weber said
Head Coach Quentin Wright called Weber the guy who “makes sure the oil is checked, and the gas is full. He shows up to practice and is willing to be the guy for anyone and everyone to practice with. Anytime someone needed a partner, Miles would be the guy. He is a great teammate. ”
After high school, Weber will continue his academic career at Penn College and get a degree in Network Administration.
Scott, per usual, won by pin. Van Allman followed Scott with a pin of his own. Suhoney battled hard and won via decision 3-1.
Although the rest of the Golden Eagles battled hard, they were not able to secure a win.
Tyrone’s dual season came to an end with this meet, and the team is training for the individual district tournament, which will take place on February 13-14 at Altoona High School.
