After losing four starters from Tyrone’s back-to-back district championship squad to graduation, the Lady Eagles have had different looks all season, but Coach Luke Rhoades’ team found its rhythm Tuesday with a solid 53-30 win over BEA.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and went into the half up 26-13.

Senior Kayelin Gibbons led Tyrone with 13 points with freshman Alayna Woomer close behind with 12.

Tyrone freshman Rylan Crowell added three 3s and junior Bree Paul added two more 3-point shots.

The 53-30 win over BEA saw 14 different Lady Eagles players take the floor, with points from eight different players.

Much of the credit for the team’s improvement goes to the return of senior forward Kayelin Gibbons.

“Kayelin has brought a sense of leadership and game knowledge that is helping the other girls understand the game better,” said Rhoades.

Gibbons has been averaging 14 points per game and 8.4 rebounds since her return to the lineup.

But the team has also benefited from the shooting of junior Bree Paul and freshman Alayna Woomer, who have been leading the team in threes.

Starting as a freshman is a challenge, but Woomer is gaining confidence with each game.

“Junior high to varsity was a big jump at first, but after a few games, I got used to it. Seeing our team improve each game is also great,” said Woomer.

The Lady Eagles have had to develop new chemistry after losing almost their entire starting five last year. Coming off back-to-back District 6 titles, Rhoades wants to add another to the list.

After starting 0-3, the girls had improved to 5-5 going into Tuesday’s game. The win brings the girl’s record above .500 for the first time this season.

Their next game will be at home on Friday, January 13th at 7 pm against Bellefonte.
