Volleyball drops matches against Bellwood and Bellefonte

The girls’ volleyball team dropped two matches this week against Bellwood on Tuesday, September 3rd  and against Bellefonte on September 5.

Junior varsity lost in to Bellwood in two sets with a score of 25-11 and 25-13. Varsity also lost in three sets.

“We were scared and it was just nerves, said varsity coach Jim Cushion, “We need to play better as we go.”

On Thursday September 5th, both teams competed against Bellefonte for their first home game of the 2013 season.

Junior varsity played first, with JV Coach Jessica Hetrick supporting the team from the sidelines. Bellefonte took the first set with a score of 25-15. After a break, the scores tightly chased one another.  Tyrone came out winning the second set with a score of 26-24. With the sets being tied, an additional set was played as the two teams and scores went neck to neck again. However, Bellefonte came out on top, winning by the score of 15-13.

Varsity then stepped up to the net, and dropped the first set by a score of 25-15. Tyrone then won the second set, by a score of 25-20. But the varsity girls lost the match during their third set with a final of 25-16.

“I’m very pleased and proud of the JV team,” said coach Hetrick,  “They will be improving as games go on, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming matches.”

“We’ve improved since the first practice because coach Hetrick pushes us extremely hard, because she knows our potential, said  freshman JV middle hitter Alexis Cannistraci.

Senior Varsity middle hitter Lexi Patton, said, “[During our game], we hustled. All we need to work on is our serves and we’ll be ten times better.”
