The Battle of the Birds was anything but even. Tyrone’s Golden Eagles blitzed Bald Eagle Area 75–51 on Wednesday night, riding a dominant 27-point first quarter and a lights-out shooting performance to secure their third straight win.
After the final buzzer, one thing was clear: this Tyrone team is flying high.
“We came out ready to prove something,” said senior guard Eli Woomer, who drained five threes on his way to a 20-point night. “Once we got rolling in that first quarter, the energy in the gym felt different. Everyone was clicking.”
Woomer wasn’t alone in the spotlight. Senior standout Ashton Emigh poured in a team-high 23 points, scoring from all over the floor, while Ben Walk added 15 points and three triples.
Junior guards Carter Gwinn and Mason Emigh each contributed to the scoring as well, with Gwinn knocking down his own shot from around the arc in the first quarter and Emigh using his quickness and athleticism to get to the hoop, adding 6.
Seniors Billy Rudden and Owen Oakes scored four each off the bench to keep Tyrone’s offense humming.
“We’re just trusting each other more every game,” said Emigh. “It doesn’t matter who’s scoring, as long as we’re moving the ball and defending, it’s going to be tough for anyone to stop us.”
Tyrone’s sharp shooting was the difference. The Golden Eagles knocked down 10 three-pointers, compared to just one for Bald Eagle Area. That shooting edge, coupled with a crisp transition offense, helped Tyrone build a 27–14 lead after one quarter and never look back.
Bald Eagle’s James Cowan did everything he could to keep his team close, scoring a career-high 31 points, over half of his team’s total, but Tyrone’s defensive depth wore down the rest of the lineup, with nobody else scoring double digits alongside Cowan.
For Tyrone, the win pushes their record to 8–4 on the season.
Junior Ben Walk praised the team’s rhythm and determination after the game, “We’ve been emphasizing our goal of going 3-0 this week at practice,” Walk said. “When we’re patient and confident offensively like tonight, it really shows what this group can do.”
With their offense firing on all cylinders and confidence soaring, Tyrone’s Golden Eagles are proving to be a force few teams in the region can slow down.
