Tyrone Police Force Make Improvements

Since 2011 the department has added several officers and new equipment

Over the past few years, the Tyrone police force has made several upgrades in staff, equipment, facilities, and training.

According to Tyrone mayor Bill Latchford, as a result the community has been made a safer and cleaner place.

“I absolutely know there has been improvements. Our Police Chief, John Romeo, runs a tight department,” said Tyrone Mayor William Latchford.

In 2011, there were only two full time police officers and the chief. Today there are six full time officers and six part time officers.

“We are so fortunate, as a small town, to be able to have a full-time police department,” said Latchford,” With the additional officers this will even the workload and will have more officers ready if needed.”

The police force has also added equipment such as new tasers, patrol rifles, in-car cameras, and officers over the past couple years. Inside the police station, there is a new heating and air conditioning system, new furniture, and a new camera system inside the holding cell.

These improvements provide a safer environment for the community and the officers.

“I believe the old regime allowed the Police Department to function on bare bones, but the current council, under the leadership of our new Mayor, Bill Latchford, has been more than willing to give whatever resources the police department needs to function at full throttle,” said Tyrone Councilmen David Snyder.

Like in every program, especially in ones that serve and protect, there are still always room to improve.

“There are always obstacles to overcome when working with the public. We try hard to keep the borough’s citizens up to date with what we are doing. From outreach programs to technology use to provide quick and accurate information on emergencies or for any other reason that we should have” said Latchford.

Another way the police department is keeping up to date with the community is their Facebook presence. The Tyrone Police Facebook page allows the department to give the public information instantly and all the community has to do is like their page to get access to this news.
