A well-balanced offensive attack by Tyrone surged the Golden Eagles to a 78-49 victory over Clearfield.
Sophomore Eli Woomer led Tyrone’s offense with 17 points off the bench, followed by Drew Escala with 16 points. Sam Crilly contributed 13 points, and Ashton Walk tallied 12 points along with 9 assists to help improve Tyrone’s record to 4-1.
Tyrone continued their hot streak with their third double-digit win in their last three games. Junior Ashton walk attributes the success to their defensive improvement.
“We started out the year giving up too many points. Now, we’re meeting our goal of holding opponents to under 50 points a game,” Walk said.
In their first three contests, Tyrone was allowing an average of 63 points per game. In the last two games, the Golden eagles have held their opponents to just 51 points per game.
After a slow start, Drew Escala got the Tyrone offense going with a pair of three pointers. The Golden Eagles closed out the first quarter with a comfortable 18-10 lead.
The second quarter was much of the same, as Tyrone continued to find success on the offensive end. An Eli Woomer buzzer beater three-pointer gave Tyrone a 43-24 lead over Clearfield.
Coming out of halftime, the Bison weren’t willing to go down without a fight. A strong stretch for the Bison cut the lead to 12, but Tyrone responded. Aggressive defense from the Golden Eagles forced Clearfield to turn the ball over, and Tyrone was able to get open looks from behind the arc.
We knew that after halftime they weren’t going to give up so we had to come out with that kick and take the lead from 15 to 20 to 30. We started taking good shots and they just kept falling

Tyrone harbored a 63-39 lead entering the 4th quarter. Tyrone’s lead only grew from there, and the starting lineup was benched after achieving a 30 point lead.
The action wasn’t over yet, as with 3 minutes left in the game junior Logan Harpster checked into the game. Harpster has become quite the fan-favorite, as he’s always bringing energy and supporting his teammates.
Unlike Tyrone’s last home game, Harpster was unfortunately unable to score. Tyrone finished the game strong, resulting in a 78-49 victory over Clearfield.
Tyrone improves their record to 4-1, as Clearfield falls to 0-6. Tyrone will be faced with a challenge when undefeated Central Mountain travels to Tyrone on Wednesday 12/20.
