Junior Andrew Weaver is one of many Tyrone track athletes who hope to reach the podium today and tomorrow at the District Championships at Mansion Park in Altoona.

The Tyrone track team is looking forward to the PIAA District 6 championship, held at Mansion Park in Altoona today and tomorrow.  The track team has been working hard and rapidly improving. The team set 21 personal records at the Lock Haven Invitational on April 21st, so expectations are high for the upcoming district meet.

Several Tyrone girls have a great shot at making the podium, including senior Reagan Irons, juniors Becca Lewis and Bree Paul, sophomore Kylee Nelson, and freshman Nicole Ramsey.

Lock Haven track and field commit Reagan Irons is a huge part of the girl’s team, participating in the high jump, long jump, triple jump, 4×1, and 4×4. Irons is a hard-working athlete who is persistent with her sport. She jumps a 5 ‘3 in high jump, a 16’ 6 in long jump, a 34 ‘8 in triple jump.

“Reagan is such a great overall athlete. She can do almost any event. She can jump, sprint, and run in middle-distance events. When someone can do that and compete at a high level in all events it really helps the team,” said Tyrone Head Coach Brad Kanuch.

Junior Becca Lewis has also been a huge contributor to the team this season. Lewis is a four-event athlete, competing on the track in the 400, 100, and 4×100, and in the field in long jump. She ran a 60.61 400m. Lewis is a returning district champ and will not disappoint this year.

Irons and Lewis will both be looking for a repeat trip to the State Championship meet this year.

The Tyrone girls are also looking for big things from two first-year track athletes, both of whom already hold school records.

Junior Bree Paul already set the school record in 300m hurdles with a 52.11 earlier this season. She also contributes in the 300m hurdles, 200m, 4×100, and 4×4. Paul also runs an impressive  28.09 in the 200m.

Sophomore Kylee Nelson, another first-year track athlete, broke the school record in the javelin this season. Nelson threw a 111.025 beating the record by almost 2 feet. She will be moving forward with javelin for the rest of the season to secure a title at districts.

Freshman Nicole Ramsey is also a multiple-event track athlete. Ramsey competes in the long and triple jump and also runs the 100m and the 4×100. Ramsey’s personal best is a 15 ’11 in the long jump, a 33’½ in triple jump, and a 13.5 second 100.

BOYS EVENTS

Several athletes for the boys have a shot at reaching the winner’s podium at districts including Kolten Miller, Andrew Weaver, Dravyn Crowell, Rocky Romani, Aiden Detwiler, Deegan Baldauf, Sam Crilly, Ashton Emigh, Seth Hoover, Justin Jackson, and Austin Lucas.

Junior Andrew Weaver, a demon in the jumping events, leads the team this season in points. Weaver participates in the long jump, high jump with a 6ft, and triple jump and has an opportunity to reach the podium in multiple events.

Senior Kolten Miller has been a consistent performer and versatile point scorer this year. He participates in five different events including the 100m with a time of 11.7, The 400m with a 52.9, both the 4×4 and 4×1, the 300 hurdles with a 43.4, and the 200m with a 24.19.

Senior Justin Jackson is also a very versatile track and field athlete and has also contributed to five events this season. He runs the 110m hurdles with a 16.13, and the 300m hurdles with a 44 flat. Jackson triple jumps 39’ 8 and long jumps 19′ 3. He is also the highest pole vaulter on the team this season at 10’6.

Junior Dravyn Crowell does three events on the track, placing in nearly every meet this season. He contributes in three events including the 100m with an 11.54, The 200m with a 23.73, and the 4×1, running a 44.53.

Junior Rocky Romani has also played an important role on the track this year.  At districts, he will be an alternate for the 4×400 and runs the 400m with a 55.8.

Sophomore Aiden Detwiler is a distant specialist. He runs the 4×800, the 4×400, the 800m with a 2:06, and the 1600m with a 4:57. Detwiler was out due to injury for a majority of the meets but the team is glad to have him back for the district meet.

Sophomore Sam Crilly participated in the long jump and ran the 400m. Crilly runs a 54.8 400m. He will continue to run the 400m at districts while having to sacrifice long jump for the team’s benefit in points.

Freshman Ashton Emigh is gaining points on both the track and field side. He throws javelin along with running the 300m hurdles and 110m hurdles. Ashton throws a 131 in javelin, runs a 46 in 300m hurdles, and runs a 19 in 110m hurdles.
