The Tyrone Golden Eagle varsity baseball team lost its first game of the season to Bellwood 9-2 on Saturday, March 22.

“We lost due to lack of aggressiveness, hitting, and poor performance from the team,” said senior captain Jordan Miller, who was frustrated with the season opening loss.

The Eagles managed two runs on six hits and had two defensive errors on the day.

Casey Gray and Zach Mock were key to the Bellwood win. Gray pitched five innings, stuck out eight and walked none. Mock drove in two runs.

Tyrone’s  Jacob Dorminy had an RBI in the game.  The losing pitcher for Tyrone was senior Freedom Sprankle.

Bellwood starts out the season 2-0. Tyrone is 0-1.

According to Miller, the Tyrone boys look forward to playing harder and not letting this loss affect their season.
