Track Team Performs Well at Shippensburg Invitational

Voyzey sets another meet record

Erika Voyzey continued her monster senior season with a first place finish at the 90th Annual Shippensburg Invitational on Saturday. In addition to tying her own meet record and winning the high jump, a personal best jump of 16’10 3/4″ garnered a second place finish in the long jump.

“High jumping is always fun, but having my best jump in long jump was really refreshing,” said Voyzey, “It was only the second time I’ve done it this season so to do as well as I did was a pleasant surprise.”

I’m really happy with how I did considering the level of competition

— Joe Kohler

Makenzie Stauffer ran a 17.42 in the 100 meter hurdles and placed 3rd. The scoring for the girls team was rounded out by a 7th place effort from the 1600 meter relay team of Tori Crabtree, Payton Wagner, Kristen Johnson and Emily Beam.

Cullen Raftery spearheaded the boys team with a third place finish in the triple jump. His impressive leap of 42’11” was a personal best. Fellow jumper Jake Meredith reached the height of 5’6″ in the high jump and took 7th overall.

Joe Kohler was the only double place winner on the boys team, placing 4th in the 3200 meter and 8 in the 1600 meter. His time of 10:21 in the 3200 meter tied a personal best from last season.

“I’m really happy with how I did considering the level of competition,” said Kohler, “Some of the athletes here are Division 1 prospects, so to perform at my best was a real testament to how far I’ve come since the beginning of the season.”

Adam Zook rounded out the scoring on the track with a 7th place finish in the 800 meter with a time of 2:06.89. Not to be outdone, Jeff McNelis and Nick Bonsell took 5th in discus and 8th in shot put respectively. McNelis’ toss of 128’1″ in discus was a new personal best.

Both the boys and girls squads will look to continue Saturday’s success into what has shaped up to be a highly anticipated week of competition. Monday will see the Golden Eagles take on rival Bellwood-Antis in the last dual meet of the season before the Mountain League Championship meet on Wednesday.
