Tigers Too Much for Lady Eagles

The Tyrone Lady Eagles battled hard but fell short of a win against the Lady Tigers of Hollidaysburg, 55-43.

“It was definitely a game that left me angry and wanting more. We’re coming back though, and we want to win,” said Tyrone junior Kayelin Gibbons.

The 3-0 Lady Tigers were a tough matchup for the now 1-1 Lady Eagles, and it proved throughout the game.

The Eagles had a hard time scoring in the first quarter. After struggling for the first four minutes to knock anything down, Tyrone senior Jaida Parker scored Tyrone’s first points with a layup, two of Tyrone’s 7 points in the first quarter, which ended 9-7 in favor of the Lady Tigers.

Momentum started in the second quarter with a pair of three’s from Stephanie Ramsey and putbacks from Parker, Gibbons, and Lewis. The Eagles tripled their score making it 26-21 at the half.

After the half, the Eagles were looking good with numerous looks off of screens and cuts but it stopped there. The physicality of the Tigers ended their short spree and that summed up the entire third quarter.

The Hollidaysburg fans and players alike were frustrated in the fourth quarter when Hollidaysburg point guard Marin Miller was called for her fourth foul.

Gibbons led Tyrone in scoring with 11 points, including a nice shot from the left perimeter.

Senior Jaida Parker was right behind her, with 10 and Ramsey just behind Parker with 8.

The Eagles will see Hollidaysburg at home on January 17, a game that could decide the Mountain League Championship.

Tyrone plays next at Penns Valley on Friday at 7:30 pm.
