At the end of last season, second-year Lady Eagle softball head coach Hillary Soellner said goodbye to four seniors and three starters. Despite those losses, the team still has reasons to be optimistic in 2024 because they will welcome ten freshmen to the team.

The team will also welcome two new coaches this season, a new assistant coach, Paul Erb, and a new junior varsity coach, Joe Laukaitis.

During the pre-season, the Lady Eagles scrimmaged Westmont Hilltop and won 12-6.

“I’m very optimistic about our season this year. Our girls have worked hard in the off-season to improve their physical and mental game,” said Head Coach Hillary Soellner.

Many players are a part of travel teams during the summer or all year round. Two players, Allison Beeman and Amariah Sprankle had the chance to travel to Denver, Colorado to play in a tournament.

Returning letter winners from last year are Allison Beman, Tiffanie Tuskovich, Kk Brodzina, Sam Shaw, Layna Dibert, and Amariah Sprankle.

Newcomers who will see playing time are freshmen Lucy Fogleman and Katilyn Rockwell.

The starting pitchers will be freshman Katilyn Rockwell, sophomore Amariah Sprankle, and junior Sam Shaw. Lucy Fogleman will also step up to take over for last year’s catcher, 2023 graduate Beth Pearson.

Some big hitters from last year include all three seniors, Beeman, Brodzina, and Tuskovich along with junior Shaw and sophomore Sprankle.

“I feel like we are a solid lineup both offensively and defensively. I’m really excited for the season and I’m already so proud of our girls,” Soellner said.

Early on in the season, the Lady Eagles will face some good competition.

The Lady Eagles’ first game against Penns Valley was postponed until April 6th. As of now, they are beginning their season with an away game against Bald Eagle.
