The Tyrone Lady Eagles bounced back in a big way Wednesday night as they came out and delivered a convincing victory over the Bellefonte Red Raiders. They defeated their Mountain League opponents by a score of 67-41.

“I thought we executed our offense a little bit better; we hit shots and we took the ball to the basket.  We still didn’t shoot as well as we need to, but I thought some girls stepped up and hit shots. Jaida really attacked the basket well in the first half which was really key to us,” said Tyrone head Coach Luke Rhoades.

Jaida Parker led all scorers with 25 points, but the rest of the team held their own as all starters scored 5 points or more. Freshman Kayelin Gibbons came off the bench and had a strong performance finishing with 9 points.

The Red Raiders played a tough first quarter holding the sharpshooting Golden Eagles in check. The first quarter ended with Bellefonte trailing only 19-14.

Bellefonte was able to hold Tyrone in check for just so long as the second quarter belonged to Tyrone. The Golden Eagles held Bellefonte to only 10 points in the second quarter, ending the first half with Tyrone leading  35-24.

The Lady Eagles came out in the third quarter, determined to put the game away. They knocked down shots at will, while their defense only allowed 6 points, making it almost impossible for Bellefonte to sway the momentum.

“We still have to work defensively. I was not happy with our defense in the first half. We played better in the third quarter. I still think defensively we need to do a better job. We need to keep maturing. This is a group where I think it’s gonna take some time. We need to keep mentally maturing and getting mentally tougher,” said Rhoades.

The final quarter did not get better for the Red Raiders as they were outscored 15-11 by the Lady Eagles. With the victory, Tyrone starts Mountain League play 1-0 with an overall record of 1-1.
