Lady Eagles Punch Ticket to District Final

The Tyrone Lady Eagles punched their ticket to the District 6 Championship Tuesday night with a 62-51 victory over United. Sophomore Stephanie Ramsey led the charge for Tyrone with 23 points, and five threes.

“Stephanie is like our coach on the floor. She understands the game and knows what is expected and gets the other girls involved,” said Tyrone ahead Coach Luke Rhoades.

After her hot hand from the first half cooled down, Ramsey did not make a field goal during the entire fourth quarter. Although she didn’t make a shot from the field, her lights out free throw shooting helped ice the game for the Lady Eagles.

Jaida Parker, Shannon Shaw, and Emma Getz also contributed to the Lady Eagle attack. Parker finished with 16 points, Shaw finished with 9 points and two threes, and Getz had 9.

After a back and forth first quarter Tyrone finished strong holding a 10-6 lead. The Golden Eagles came out blazing from three to start the second as they hit three in a row. They opened the quarter on a 9-1 run.

They stayed hot for the rest of the quarter outscoring United 21-9 over the rest of the second. They held a firm 31-15 lead over United going into halftime. United shortened the Lady Eagle lead in the third quarter scoring them 17-10. Even after the strong third-quarter Tyrone still held a 9 point, 41-32 lead.

United was not going to let Tyrone cruise into the championship without first putting up a fight. They started knocking down threes from every location beyond the arc. They cut the Lady Eagle lead to 53-47 with only 2 minutes remaining in the game.

After having their lead cut Tyrone’s defense only allowed United to score 4 points over the games final minutes while their free throw shooting propelled them into the district finals.

With Tyrone’s ticket punched they look to cut down the nets once more Friday night up at Mount Aloysius when they take on Cambria at 6 o’clock.
