The second seeded Lady Eagles used their hot hand from three point range to defeat United 63-45 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Led by the sharpshooting Shaw siblings, Sydney and Shannon who combined for 19 of Tyrone’s first 28 points. Senior Sydney had 14 and sophomore Shannon had nine points.  They were also fueled by the outstanding freshman duo of Stephanie Ramsey and Jaida Parker who finished with 13 points each.

I thought we played fast and at times we rebounded good and there were times we didn’t and that’s when they were able to stick around the game, but for tomorrow we need to be able to protect the basketball and get shots every possession and if we turn the ball over and give easy run-outs it could be a long game

Tyrone wasted no time getting into rhythm early in the first quarter as they knocked down back-to-back-to-back threes from Jaida Parker, Sydney Shaw, and Reilly Ronan. As a result Tyrone jumped out to a 9-2 lead only a minute into the game. Tyrone added 8 more points in the quarter after a hot start. They led 17-9 after the opening frame.

“I think we need to improve on handling the ball better when pressured and on the ball defense in order to defeat Penn Cambria and move on to the district final,” said senior Brooke Welsh.

Tyrone’s hot hand from three continued in the second quarter as Sydney Shaw knocked down two more to go along with threes from Shannon Shaw and Stephanie Ramsey. The Lady Eagles finished the first half with 8 made three pointers and a comfortable 31-20 lead.

Tyrone dominated the second half as United was never able to come within 10 points. Every time it would look as if a comeback was looming Tyrone would knock down 2-3 shots in a row to go up big again.

“I thought we played fast and at times we rebounded good and there were times we didn’t and that’s when they were able to stick around the game, but for tomorrow we need to be able to protect the basketball and get shots every possession and if we turn the ball over and give easy run-outs it could be a long game,” said Head Coach Lucas Rhoades.

The Lady Eagles shut down United in the third quarter holding them in single digits. Although their offense wavered off Tyrone still held a firm 45-29 lead after three quarters.

With the victory the Lady Eagles move to 18-5 on the season. They advance to the semifinals on Tuesday to take on third seeded Penn Cambria at Hollidaysburg at 6:00. With another victory on Tuesday the Lady Eagles would punch their ticket to the district title game.
