Lady Eagles Fall Short in District Championship

The Tyrone Lady Eagles lost a hard-fought contest against Cambria Heights in the District Six Championship game, 49-37. Tyrone held the lead for the entire first half but Cambria Heights was able to pull back in the second half to win.

Tyrone was led by the hot hand of junior Shannon Shaw who had 17 of the Lady Eagles 37 points, with 15 of them coming from beyond the arc. Sophomores Stephanie Ramsey and Jaida Parker each added 9 points for the Lady Eagles.

Although Tyrone’s offense was slowed down by the 2-3 zone ran by Cambria Heights in the second half, they really won the game at the free-throw line. Cambria Heights went 11-18 from the stripe while Tyrone only took 5 shots from the line.

Tyrone came out from the tip firing on all cylinders. Their shots all seemed to be in rhythm knocking down shot after shot. Shaw couldn’t miss in the early part of the game.

Tyrone stayed hot for the early portion of the second quarter extending their lead to 20-9 at one point. However, Cambria Heights responded by going on an 8-0 run over the final few minutes of the half, cutting Tyrone’s lead to 20-17 at the end of the first half.

Just as Tyrone started the first half hot Cambria Heights exploded out of the gates to start the second. They outscored the Lady Eagles 20-6 in the third quarter to take a 37-26 lead after the third quarter.

Tyrone began knocking down threes again in the fourth but it was not enough to overcome the lead established by Cambria Heights 20 point outbreak in the third.

Even though Tyrone lost the game they will still advance to the state playoffs. Their first game will be this Friday against Avenworth in Altoona at 6pm.
