Lady Eagles Dominate Red Raiders

The Tyrone Lady Eagles improved to 7-5 with a 59-29 blowout victory over the Bellefonte Red Raiders on Friday, January 13th.

The Lady Eagles started the game with an 11-0 run. The biggest challenge for the Red Raiders was stopping Tyrone senior Kayelin Gibbons and freshman Alayna Woomer. The senior and the freshman combined for 41 of the Lady Eagle’s 59 points.

This game was a big one for me. It made me feel like I am back at my normal level. It took me a few games to get back into things

— Kayelin Gibbons

Defensively, Tyrone held the Red Raiders to just 2 points in the second quarter, going into halftime up 41-9.

Gibbons was unable to be stopped, scoring 26 from inside the paint. Woomer tallied 15, scoring most of her points in the paint as well.

“This game was a big one for me. It made me feel like I am back at my normal level. It took me a few games to get back into things,” said Gibbons.

Earlier in the season, the Lady Eagles were more of a threat from around the arc, but against Bellefonte, they proved that they are not just a 3-point team. Tyrone only had two 3s in the game, one each from freshmen Rylan Crowell and Amariah Sprankle.

Bellefonte junior Maria Cotter led the Red Raiders with 17.

The Lady Eagles play again tonight, January 16th at home against the 11-0 Hollidaysburg Lady Tigers.
