Lady Eagles Comeback Falls Short Against Penns Valley

Despite 14 points from sophomore Mia Kosoglow and 14 more from senior Emily Lehman, the Lady Eagles comeback bid fell short as they lost 55-50 as they seemed to be in a battle with both their opponents and the officials.

The first quarter was dominated by Penns Valley with the aid of a foul call on every trip down the floor. The Lady Rams were hitting almost every shot they took, while the Lady Eagles had trouble putting the ball in the basket. The first quarter came to a close with Tyrone trailing 17-11.

The second quarter was once again dominated by Penns Valley’s lockdown defense holding the Lady Eagles to only 8 points while scoring 13 of their own. The first half finally came to a close with the Lady Eagles trailing 30-19.

Both teams came out in the third quarter as sophomore Mia Kosoglow knocked down a three right as the quarter started, but Penns Valley came right down the court and nailed a three of their own.

Penns Valley at one point held a 15 point, 40-25 lead during the third quarter.

But, the Lady Eagles weren’t going down without a fight, a deep three from Kelsey Johnson near the end of the third quarter, cut the lead to 12. That shot started to shift the momentum in Tyrone’s favor for the first time in the game. The third quarter came to a close with the Lady Eagles still trailing 42-30 but the momentum had shifted in favor of the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles came back in the fourth quarter, by almost doubling their season fourth-quarter points scoring 20 while holding Penns Valley to 13. The Lady Eagles got the game as close as 52-50, but suffered the final blow when Mia Kosoglow fouled out. Penns Valley knocked down key free throws to close out the game beating the Lady Eagles 55-50.
