Track and field isn’t usually associated with December, but thanks to the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track at Penn State, area track teams can compete throughout the off-season.
The first event of Tyrone’s 2025-2026 indoor season was the State College Invitational held on December 17.
There were 15 teams in attendance, and Tyrone had the opportunity to compete against schools they don’t usually see during the outdoor season.
The top finisher for the Golden Eagles was junior Drew Irons, who finished third in the boys 400-meter dash with a time of 52.64.
“I thought I did pretty well, but I definitely need to improve on my 200 time. It dropped a lot since last year. I improved my 400 time from last year from 52.8 to 52.6. I underestimated myself in the 60, and I’m excited to see how the rest of indoor goes,” Irons said.
Irons also finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.24 seconds, and seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.93 seconds.
