Juniors Drew Irons and Sarah Chichester led a field of seven Tyrone indoor track and field athletes at one of the largest indoor track meets in the state, the Kevin Dare Invitational at the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track at Penn State University on Saturday, January 10th.
The meet was hosted by Penn State’s track and field program and drew more than 1,000 athletes across the state, as well as schools from Maryland and New York, creating an electric atmosphere for all the athletes.
In addition to Irons and Chichester, Tyrone was represented by Nicole Ramsey, Caleb Whitby, Nate Erickson, Brenson Davis, and Ella Savino.
BOYS
Irons had a great meet, finishing 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.86 seconds.
In the 60-meter dash, Irons was 18th with a time of 7.26 seconds. He also finished 19th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.48 seconds.
“I thought I did pretty well. The competition was a lot better than other indoor races, and I think that’s why I was able to PR in both the 400 and 200,” Irons said.
Caleb Whitby was 37th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.41 seconds.
In the 3000-meter run, freshman Brensen Davis was 29th with a time of 10:39.94, and senior Nate Erickson finished 30th with a time of 10:52.37.
Erickson also competed in the mile, placing 46th with a time of 5:19.95.
GIRLS
On the girls’ side, junior Sarah Chichester also excelled, earning 13th in the 200 with an indoor PR of 26.38 seconds. Chichester also placed 24th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.33 seconds.
“It was a lot of fun. There was great competition from a lot of big schools. I was happy with how it turned out,” Chichester said.
In the 800-meter run, freshman Ella Savino was 41st with a time of 2:42.65.
In the 200, enior Nicole Ramsey finished 48th with a time of 28.58 seconds.
