Golden Eagles Defeat Philipsburg; Struggle Against Clearfield

The Tyrone boys and girls track and field teams were able to beat one of the two teams at their tri-meet on Tuesday.  The boys defeated Philipsburg-Oceola by a score of 92-57 and the girls won 87-63, but both teams lost to Clearfield. The boys lost by a score of 100-50 and the girls 80-69.

The boys were lead by Junior Nicholas Vasbinder and Sophomore Matthew Clifton.  Both contributed to the first place win in the 4×100 relay, along with Daniel Parker and Matthew Brooks.  Vasbinder had a third place finish in the long jump and two second place finishes in the long jump and triple jump.  Clifton placed third in the 100m, and also had two second place finishes in the long jump and the 200m.

Tyrone was without its top distance runner as senior Zach Kohler is out due to injury.

Some other notable finishers for the boys were Noah Zimmerman and Nathan Walk.  Zimmerman got a PR in the javelin, with a throw of 151 feet, carrying him to first place.  Walk also got a PR in the 110m hurdles, with a time of  17.63, also giving him a first place finish.  Walk also got a second place finish in the 300m hurdles.

The girls team was lead by Junior Elise Gailey  and Chesney and Natalie Saltsgiver.  Both Gailey and Natalie helped with a fist place win in the 4×100 relay, along with Brianna Foy and Aaryanna Wright.  Gailey also placed first in the 100m dash and second in the 200m dash.  Natalie had a third place finish in the 200m dash and a second place jump in the high jump.  Chesney had two first place jumps in the long jump and the triple jump.  Chesney also had a second place finish in the 400m dash.

The boys move on with a 2-1 record, and the girls move on with a 1-2 record as the go on to host West Branch on Monday.
