Tyrone went up against two of the area’s toughest teams, Bellefonte and Hollidaysburg, on April 14, in a meet that was interrupted by several weather delays.
The boys edged Bellefonte 55-54 but fell to Hollidaysburg 65-40. They are now 8-2 on the season. The girls dropped both meets, but remain in good shape at 7-3.
The lightning delays forced Tyrone athletes back to the bus multiple times, and the competition did not begin until about an hour after its scheduled start.
After the 300-meter hurdles, rain and more lightning forced officials to cancel the remainder of the meet and end competition early.
The canceled events included the 200-meter dash, 800-meter run, 3200-meter run, 4×400-meter relay, girls javelin, and boys shot put. Despite the missing events, the meet was still scored.
Because both Bellefonte and Hollidaysburg are larger schools, the competition gave Tyrone a valuable opportunity to test itself against stronger opposition.
