A tired Tyrone team came into Philipsburg on Friday, January 26 with the idea to take care of the Mounties and prepare for Penns Valley. Fortunately for the Golden Eagles, they were able to cruise to a 73-49 road win.

Tyrone had four double-digit scorers who paved the way the entire game for the Golden Eagles to secure the victory. Andrew Escala and Eli Woomer led Tyrone in scoring with 16 each, Sam Crilly followed behind with 15, and Kendall Lehner put up a solid 13.

Our defense in the second half propelled us to get the W

The Golden Eagle defense was a key factor in the win with Brady Ronan and Kendall Lehner snatching rebounds and Sam Crilly having a couple of nice steals.

“Our defense in the second half propelled us to get the W,” assistant coach Joe Laukitis said.

Philipsburg was struggling to get things going the entire game with just one Mountie player able to reach the double-digits with 16 from Meyers.

In the first half, the Golden Eagles got a quick lead over the Mounties, scoring 26 in the first quarter and 18 in the second quarter. The Mounties struggled to catch up, only scoring 16 and 11 in the first two quarters, making the score 44-27 going into halftime.

“We had to lock in and make sure we played just as well in the second half,” said senior Brady Ronan.

The third quarter followed the same pattern with Tyrone scoring 23 and the Mounties falling behind with only eight points.

Late into the third quarter Tyrone started to make substitutions and several Tyrone reserves got significant time on the floor.

Tyrone was able to keep control of the game and hold the Mounties to 14 points in the final quarter, winning the bout 73-49.

Tyrone moves their record to 10-6.
