Golden Eagle Wrestlers Suffer Another Loss

The Tyrone Golden Eagle wrestlers lost 65-10 to the Clearfield Bisons, Tuesday, January 23rd. Three of the twelve wrestlers were out due to illness, which contributed to the Eagles’ loss.

Tyrone started off the night by forfeiting at 120 to Clearfield’s Peyton Smay.  At 126, Isaac Parks was pinned in the last five seconds of the first period to make the team score 12-0 Clearfield. Clearfield gained another first-period pin against Noah Sprankle at 132.

Alex Weaver was the first to score for Tyrone at 138. Weaver started off by taking down Clearfield’s Quentin Edwards, who then got a reversal. Weaver escaped then took down Edwards again, making the score 5-2 at the end of the first period. Edwards chose down to start off the second period. Weaver used that to his advantage as he received a pair of 2 near fall points. Edwards then got another reversal and Weaver quickly escaped again. Weaver then gained a penalty point which made the score 11-4 at the end of the second period. Weaver chose neutral at the beginning of the third period and took down Edwards again. Edwards then escaped and took Weaver down, but Weaver got a reversal to end the match 15-7.

At 145 Brandon Ixtepan was pinned in the first period by Clearfield’s Nathan Barr. Clearfield then gained another five team points when Caleb Freeman tech-falled Cameron Brandt at 152. The Golden Eagles forfeited again at 160 to make the team score 35-4 Clearfield.

Tommy Hicks then lost a close match to Clearfield’s Hunter Wright at 170. At the end of the first period, Hicks was down 2-0. Wright chose down to start the second period and quickly got a reversal which was countered then by a reversal from Hicks. The score was 4-2 Wright at the end of the second period. Hicks chose down for the beginning of the third period and got another reversal. Wright earned a penalty point then escaped, making the final score 6-4.

Tyrone then forfeited at the next three weight classes, and Dan Peterson was pinned in the first period to make the team score 62-4 Clearfield.

Hunter Walk pinned Clearfield’s Angelo Maines in the first period which gave Tyrone six more points. Mason Walls was able to keep Clearfield’s Jonathan Thomas to a regular decision when he lost 8-3, making the final team score 65-10.
