One night after beating Johnstown in a thriller, Tyrone upped their winning streak to five by defeating Bishop McCort in a hard-fought game that featured a lot of defense and scrappiness.

Bishop McCort’s Gallucci led the Crushers in scoring with 20 while the rest of the McCort offense was rather quiet with nobody else getting into the double digits.

By contrast, Tyrone had three players in double digits. Sam Crilly led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 20, Eli Woomer followed with 15, and Drew Escala had 14.

Tyrone got off to a slow start against the Crushers as they fell behind by 6 in the opening minutes, but Crilly started his night with a couple of threes to begin the Golden Eagle hot streak.

Brady Ronan dominated in the post and made a couple of shots but more importantly, forced turnovers that turned into easy layups. Sam Crilly continued to dominate and tallied up two more threes to give Tyrone a 34-22 lead going into the half.

“We were playing well as a team, everything was clicking and the score showed,” said junior Ashton Walk.

Tyrone came out of the half rather slow as the Crushers went on an early run, but it was short-lived. Drew Escala started to hit some key shots and Kendall Lehner got a few rebounds to put them back for a few more points. The Golden Eagles held the 47-36 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Tyrone ran away with the score and put the game out of reach for the Crushers to come back. In the final minutes, some players came off the bench for Tyrone and were able to run the clock out as Tyrone improved their record to 13-6.

Tyrone will take on the 8-11 Bald Eagle Eagles in Wingate as they will try to improve their record and secure the 3rd seed in the 3a District 6 playoffs.
