The Tyrone Golden Eagles faced off against Penns Valley on Monday and got an electric win in a tense, back-and-forth game.
Ashton Emigh led the team in scoring with an outstanding 28 points, junior Ben Walk with 18, and senior Eli Woomer with 11.
Penns Valley opened the game looking like the more dominant team, going up 19-9 in the first quarter. The Eagles did not have a great shooting night, hitting only three shots from beyond the arc.
Tyrone battled back during the second quarter, outscoring Penns Valley 23-11, to go into halftime with a three-point lead, 33-30.
At the end of the half, the Penns Valley coach got a technical foul. Tyrone came out in the second half, shooting free throws and getting the ball back in their possession. Eli Woomer was selected to shoot the free throws, and he made one of the two.
The Eagles had a rough third quarter with several players in foul trouble. However, they powered through and kept the lead going into the fourth, 50-45.
With a close game going into the fourth, Penns Valley started making a run on the Eagles. Careless turnovers and mistakes by Tyrone cost them some easy scores and stops on defense.
Just as the game started turning against Tyrone, Mason Emigh had a monster block off the backboard, which converted to an and-1 with his older brother, Ashton.
After this wild sequence, Tyrone’s energy was up, which spurred them to a victory, 76-64. Tyrone’s record goes to 7-4. The Eagles face Bald Eagle on the road Wednesday.
