The boys and girls track and field teams suffered their first losses of the season to Bellwood on Wednesday, April 8. However, both Tyrone teams beat Bishop Guilfoyle easily for the split.
The Bellwood boys beat Tyrone, 89-61, while Tyrone downed Bishop Guilfoyle, 126-21.
Bellwood’s girls team beat Tyrone 97-53, and Tyrone topped Bishop Guilfoyle, 126-14.
BOYS
On the boys’ side, Tyrone’s distance crew led the way. Freshman Brenson Davis had another impressive performance, winning both the 1,600-meter run in 4:53.0 and the 3,200-meter run in 10:55. He also finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:14.
The Eagles showed their strength in endurance events by placing first in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 9:02. Cam Coffee placed third in the mile, Nate Erikson placed second, and Gavin Brasher placed third in the two-mile.
In the sprints, junior Drew Irons continued to be a key contributor, placing third in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes against tough competition.
Tyrone also showed solid efforts in the hurdles, with Kyler Suhoney earning third place in the 110-meter hurdles and adding valuable points in the field. Junior Mason Emigh started his day by placing second in the 100m dash
The Eagles made their presence felt in the field events as well. Junior Mason Emigh had a standout performance, winning both the long jump with a leap of 20-0 and the triple jump at 41-10.
Eli Woomer also excelled in the jumps with strong finishes, while Zach Silva led the throws with a second-place finish in the javelin with a 126 and placed third in the discus.
Senior Corey Gehlman placed second in javelin with a 125 Kyler Suhoney had a second-place finish in the shot put.
The 4×100 and 4×400 relay both fell to Bellwood.
GIRLS
For the girls, Tyrone’s relay teams led the way, capturing wins in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, staying undefeated in dual meets. The quartet of Lehman, Ramsey, Woodring, and Chichester sprinted to victory in 52.0 seconds in the 4×100, then came back to dominate the 1600 relay in 4:26.0, showing their depth and stamina.
In individual sprints, Sarah Chichester grabbed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.7 and came back to win the 200 in 25.9, leading the Eagles’ short-distance effort. Flick added valuable team points, placing third in both the 200 (28.8) and 400 (1:05.0).
The hurdles brought another victory for Tyrone as Lehman took the 300 hurdles title in 47.6 seconds, while Woomer placed third in the 100 hurdles at 19.0.
In the jumps, Lola Woomer won the high jump at 5-0, tying the meet’s best mark. She followed up with a third-place finish in the triple jump (31-5). Nicole Ramsey finished second in the long jump (15-7) and second in the triple jump (33-7).
In the throws, Dicken continued her strong season with a first-place finish in the shot put (32-6.5) and third in discus (81-5).
Volders also contributed in the shot put, taking third (27-5), while Weaver claimed second place in discus (94-7). Naylor delivered a win in the javelin, throwing 104-0 to top the field. Warren added more points for the Lady Eagles with a second-place mark of 7-6 in the pole vault.
