The Golden Eagles split their senior night against Penns Valley on Tuesday, January 27th, with the boys winning 115-42 and the girls falling just short, 82-67.
This was a significant meet for the Golden Eagles, as it marked their senior night, during which they celebrated 11 seniors.
On the boy’s side, there were seven seniors: Lucas Bonsell, Dylan Eckenrode, Nate Erickson, Lucas Fulmer, Cameron Gallagher, Luke Gurekovich, and Bryce Hollenbach.
For the girls, there were four seniors: Grace Corl, Bella Laird, Hailey Lowery, and Lily McNelis.
BOYS: TYRONE 115, PENNS VALLEY 42
The boys had many PR’s and swept multiple events.
Patrick Van Kleunen was a standout swimmer for the boys, winning the 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke, and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
Matthew Eckenrode was also a standout swimmer for the boys, winning the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, and was a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay.
The Golden Eagles won all three relays.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Golden Eagles won with a time of 1:53.85. (Patrick Van Kleunen, Cameron Nelson, Lucas Bonsell, Matthew Eckenrode). In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Golden Eagles won with a time of 1:45.86. (Elijah Grove, Ned Smearman, Eric Goodman, Owen Dunklebarger). In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Golden Eagles won with a time of 3:52.75. (Owen Dunklebarger, Lucas Bonsell, Cameron Gallagher, Patrick Van Kleunen).
The Individual events also went very well for the Golden Eagles, as there were several new PR’s, and they were able to sweep multiple races.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Golden Eagles swept, with Goodman winning in a PR of 25.11. Chase Gallagher placed second with a time of 25.91, and Smearman placed third with a time of 26.58.
In the 100-yard freestyle, the Golden Eagles swept, with Van Kleunen winning with a time of 54.95. Ca. Gallagher placed second with a PR of 55.94, and Goodman placed third with a PR of 59.40.
In the 500-yard freestyle, the Golden Eagles swept, with M. Eckenrode winning with a time of 5:38.38. Domanick Halerz placed second with a time of 7:41.23, and Nate Erickson placed third with a PR of 8:07.21.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Nelson won with a PR of 1:10.63, and Ch. Gallagher placed second with a PR of 1:18.67.
In the 200-yard freestyle, M. Eckenrode won with a time of 2:01.89, and Vinnie Maloney placed third with a PR of 2:26.32.
Van Kleunen won the 100-yard backstroke with a PR of 59.48, and Bonsell placed third with a time of 1:10.74.
In the 200-yard IM, Ca. Gallagher won with a time of 2:37.74.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Owen Dunklebarger placed second with a PR of 58.92, and Lucas Bonsell placed third with a PR of 59.85.
GIRLS: PENNS VALLEY 82, TYRONE 67
While the girls didn’t win, the meet was close, and the Lady Eagles set multiple PR’s.
In the 100-yard freestyle, the Lady Eagles swept, with Emma Bonsell winning in a time of 1:07.06. Corl placed second with a PR of 1:08.42, and Penington placed third with a PR of 1:08.44
Bonsell also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke and was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Blake Pennington, Grace Corl, Adalyn Jefries, and Bonsell won with a time of 2:01.15.
The Lady Eagles placed second in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The 200 medley relay team of Blake Pennington, Adalyn Jeffries, Emma Bonsell, and Grace Corl swam a 2:28.09, and the 400-yard relay team of Lily McNelis, Hailey Lowery, Sarah Chichester, and Bella Laird swam a 4:38.14.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Corl placed second with a PR of 29.60, and Jeffries placed third with a time of 31.07.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Julie Kraft placed second with a time of 7:55.12, and Sara Kraft placed third with a time of 10:02.60.
Cassie Behrer placed third with a PR of 3:07.88 in the 200-yard freestyle, and Pennington placed third with a PR of 1:22.97 in the 100 backstroke.
