Tyrone competed in its second indoor track meet of the season at the Penn State Multi-Sport Complex Indoor Track last Thursday at 6:00 pm.

Junior Daniel Lay ran a 10.50 in the 60 meter hurdles. Only ten minutes later, he stepped into the starting blocks for the 60 meter dash. Lay breezed across the finish line in only 7.50 seconds, a personal record.

“I am excited to see improvements this early in the year. Indoors is a nice prep for outdoors, and I can’t wait to see what the next few meets will hold,” said Lay.

Also on the men’s team, senior Jeffrey McNelis placed 7th in the men’s shot put with a lengthy throw of 39 feet 10 inches.

The women’s team overcame a few obstacles before the invitational even started.

Junior Makenzie Stauffer started the day with some health issues.  Despite passing out earlier she was able to pick herself up and recorded some fast times, placing fifth overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of ten seconds flat. She also ran an 8.80 second 60 meter dash.

“You’re going to battle, you’re going to fight, but win or lose, you’re going to be alright,” said Stauffer about her up and down day.

Senior Erika Voyzey made a mighty leap of 5’8” in the high jump, placing first just two days after breaking her arm.

“I knew if I could compete now, I would be able to survive the rest of the season,” said Voyzey.

Voyzey will compete in the annual Kevin Dare Invitational on Saturday, January 23.

The next team invitational will be February 11.
