Wright Begins with a W

Under the new leadership of Head Coach Quentin Wright, Tyrone’s debut match of the 2021-22 season against Northern Bedford resulted in a 46-16 victory for the Golden Eagles and Coach Wright’s first win as a Golden Eagle.

Three Tyrone wrestlers pinned their opponent in under a minute; at 113 Korry Walls pinned Harley Bailey in 14 seconds, Logan Rumberger pinned Dillian Walker in 29 seconds, and at 152 Reese Wood pinned Collin Pepple in just 23 seconds.

Full of fire was Zack Lash at 172. Lash came out looking for a match, but Northern Bedford was fearful of a Lash attack so he received a forfeit.

Jason Barr also received a forfeit at 189 due to Northern Bedford’s wrestler not making weight. Elijah Walk also won by forfeit.

Reyan Imler drew first blood for Northern Bedford with a major decision over Remington Fleck at 132.

Northern Bedford standout Eion Snider wrestled Andrew Weaver at 160. Snider scored first blood but was dogged out by the end of the first. In the second, Weaver was in the zone and nearly pinned Snider, but he, unfortunately, rolled out and pinned Weaver.

Jake Rice had his first match on varsity at 215, but Rice fell to Brian Amick in roughly a minute, making the score 40-16.

The final match of the night was at heavyweight between Tyrone’s Cody Schneider and Northern Bedfords Brock Beach. Schneider struggled to wrestle the bear of a man, but towards the middle of the second period, Schneider pinned his opponent for the win.

This made the final score Tyrone 46 and Northern Bedford 16.

¨It was a great first match and we will improve our energy in the third period. We started with a forfeit and ended with a pin, but along the way we needed to stop for gas,¨ said Tyrone Head Coach Quentin Wright.
