Tyrone Wrestlers Place at Holiday Tournaments

Four Tyrone wrestlers placed at two large holiday tournaments over Christmas break: the Panther Holiday Classic at Mount Aloysius College and the Trojan Wars at Chambersburg High School.

It was the first large tournament for many of Tyrone’s younger wrestlers and a first for new head coach Quentin Wright.

I wanted to represent our team and town, so I went out determined to win. To me this was a good way to prove myself against talented wrestlers

— Braden Ewing

¨Panther Classic was a good first test, our Eagles’ first flight, or as Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story would say, falling with style,¨ said Wright.

Senior Ashton Sipes was the only Tyrone wrestler to place at both the Panther Holiday Classic and Trojan Wars.

Sipes placed sixth at the Panther Holiday Classic and 5th at the Trojan Wars at 132 lbs weight class.

Korry Walls (113) , Reese Wood (152), and Logan Rumburger (120) all placed only at the Panther Holiday Classic.

Juniors Korry Walls and Reese Wood both placed sixth. Logan Rumburger was the only freshman to place, placing eighth.

“For the Trojan Wars, it was another good test with guys at new weight classes. I would like to call it the ´Trojan Horse strategy,´ most of the guys snuck into day two, but as soon as we started wrestling, only two survived to the podium.¨ said Wright.

Along with Sipes, heavyweight Braden Ewing came in unseeded but Ewing was unstoppable at the Trojan Wars, beating older, heavier, and higher-seeded wrestlers to finish third in his weight class

¨At the Trojan Wars, I wanted to represent our team and town, so I went out determined to win. To me this was a good way to prove myself against talented wrestlers,” said Ewing.
