The Laurel Highlands will bring a new schedule and look to the 2023-2024 wrestling season.
New opponents like Penn Cambria, Chestnut Ridge, and Bedford will allow Tyrone to get a look at different teams during the regular season.
Tyrone will also host the Laurel Highlands Championships on January 5 and 6.
The Eagles return five regional qualifiers and two state qualifiers this season: Braden Ewing, Kyle Scott, Andrew Weaver, Lukas Walk, and Logan Rumberger.
Tyrone will add two scrappy new freshmen, Caleb Whitby and Andrew Detwiler, to the varsity lineup.
The grapplers will have a busy month starting this week with the Dry Tech duels this coming weekend, Laurel Highlands Championships on January 5 and 6, the Panther Holiday Classic at Mount Aloysius College on December 15 and 16, and The Ultimate Warrior at West Branch High School at the end of January.
The Panther Holiday Classic and the Ultimate Warrior Tournament are two of the toughest tournaments in the area and Tyrone has done very well in the past.
Another addition to the schedule is the PO Mountaineer duels in Philipsburg on January 13th.
In 2022, Tyrone was one match away from making the state dual tournament, and with many of the guys on that team returning, they could potentially be in the state bracket this year.
Tyrone is looking to get last year’s state qualifiers Braden Ewing and Kyle Scott, back to the individual state championship and add at least two or three more.
Tyrone opens the season tonight at Hollidaysburg. The first bout is at 7 pm.
