Tyrone Swimming Goes 6-0 on the Week

Swimming Seniors celebrate senior night against Altoona with a win.

Tyrone girls and boys swim team had a busy but very successful week, with both boys and girls wins over Altoona on Monday, Northern Cambria on Tuesday, and Central Cambria on Wednesday.

“I think we did very well against all three teams. I feel like we have improved on our technique over the past few months of swimming,” said junior swimmer Cate Baran.

Tyrone vs. Altoona, N. Cambria and Central Cambria

Girls Score: Tyrone- 109 Altoona- 60

Mae Decker, Fiona McConnell, Madison Coleman, and Sarah E. Hoover took first place in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Junior Decker took first place in the 50 yard freestyle (27.84) and 100 yard backstroke (1:08.41).

Sophomore Coleman took first place in the 100 yard fly (1:09.63) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:57.75).  

Junior McConnell took first place in the 200 yard freestyle (2:14.52) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.36).

Freshman Reese took first in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.90), improving her time by one second from her previous time. She also took second place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:11.49).

“I think we did amazing! So many people are dropping time and improving! We are also taking dubs every meet which is awesome,” said junior Fiona McConnell.

Boys Score: Tyrone-108 Altoona- 60

Jacob Decker, Matt Lenze, Songmian Wang, and Hjalte Skov placed first in both the 200 yard medley relay and in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Junior Songmian Wang placed first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:19.55) and the 100 yard butterfly (58.57).

Hjalte Skov placed first in both the 100 yard freestyle (54.59) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.14).

“I think we did very well and hopefully both teams can get another win,” said sophomore Wade Hendrickson.


Girls Score: Tyrone- 117 Northern Cambria- 37

The double winner for the girls team was Sophomore, Madison Coleman.

Sophomore Coleman placed first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:10.97) and the 50 yard freestyle (26.72).

Sophomore Hoover placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.40).

Junior Baran placed first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:43.87) and second in the 100 yard freestyle (1:05.97).

Boys Score: Tyrone- 129 Northern Cambria- 33

Sweeping the board in the 100 yard butterfly, Wang takes first place (58.17) with Junior Lenze stealing second (1:07.12), and Sophomore McCracken coming in third (1:23.28)

Sophomore Hendrickson dropped five seconds on his 200 yard freestyle (2:52.86).


Girls Score: Tyrone- 116 Central Cambria- 54

Junior McConnell secured a first place in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard breaststroke.

Junior Baran dropped a second in her 200 yard individual medley taking first place with a time of 2:42.44.

Junior Diebold placed fourth in the 200 yard individual medley (3:12.55), dropping nine seconds off of her past time.

“Everyone swam hard in their events, dropping their times, and placing extremely well,” said freshman Sarah M. Hoover.

Boys Score: Tyrone- 103 Central Cambria- 67

Sophomore Yaudes takes second place in the 200 yard individual medley (2:32.79) dropping five seconds off of his previous time.

Junior Nick Delbaggio dropped 4 seconds off of his earlier time in the 200 yard individual medley (2:35.37).
