Tyrone Swimming: District Championship Meet Preview

District qualifiers Emily Beam, Taylor Hoover and Abby Lunesmann

Eight Tyrone High school swimmers, two Bellwood swimmers and three Bishop Guilfoyle swimmers on the co-operative Tyrone High School Swim team will compete in the District VI Championship meet this Friday and Saturday, February 27-28th at the Penn State Natatorium in State College.

Top seeded swimmers for Tyrone are Emily Beam, who is fourth in the 100 Yard Butterfly and Mikayla Harris, sixth in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle.

Both swimmers have a good chance of making the podium.

“I am really excited for districts. I feel we have a great team and have a chance to do great,” said Harris, “I feel that we just work really well together and get along great.”

“Mikayla and Emily are strong solid swimmers and they work hard to make themselves better,” said head coach Tom Getz. “We’re hoping they can swim well and make the podium.”

Other swimmers competing for Tyrone are seniors Mikayla Harris and Samantha Aungst; Junior Collin Rhoades; Sophomores Allison Hosko, Austin Quinn, and Taylor Hoover; and Freshman Matt Beam.

The swimmers from Bellwood are Anna Wolfe and Abby Luensmann and from Bishop Guilfoyle are Ryan Evanko, Ben McConnell, and Blake Slobodnik.

“We’re hoping for season best times out of all of our district qualifiers,” added Getz.

In order to make it to the district meet, swimmers must meet a qualifying time during the regular season.
