Tyrone Swimmers Ready for District Championships

Ten swimmers from the Tyrone/Bellwood/Bishop Guilfoyle co-op swim team will compete at the District 6 Championship meet on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4 at the Penn State Natatorium on the Penn State Main Campus in State College.

Tyrone Head Coach Tom Getz says that his swimmers are ready and looking forward to the meet.

“I expect to have quite a few personal best times by the swimmers. We had a very good few weeks of practice leading up to the meet and are ready to swim some good times. I would expect to see a few kids get top ten in their events along with a few get to the podium, which is top six,” said Getz.

Representing the boys are Bellwood senior Brandon Buss, Bishop Guilfoyle junior Isacc Yeskey and Bellwood junior Spencer Dunklebarger, and Tyrone freshmen Dylan Eckenrode and Lucas Bonsell, and Bellwood freshman Cameron Gallagher.

The top relay seeds for the Tyrone team are the boys 200 medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay, both seeded fourth.

Buss and Yeskey will compete in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Dunklebarger will swim in the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.

Eckenrode and Bonsell will both compete in the 100 back, and the 100 fly.

Gallagher will swim in the 100 freestyle, and the 200 freestyle.

The top individuals are Bonsell, seeded fifth in the 100 butterfly and ninth in the 100 backstroke, and Dunklebarger, seeded fifth in the 100 freestyle and seventh in the 100 breaststroke.

On the girl’s side, Tyrone is sending Tyrone senior Kirsten Friday, Bellwood junior Evalyna Aiken, Tyrone sophomore Sophia Cowher and Bellwood sophomore Ireland Cherry.

Friday will compete in the girls’ 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and two relays.

Aiken will compete in the girl’s 500 freestyle, girls’ 100 back, and two relays.

Cowher and Cherry will both compete in two girls’ relays.

The girls 200 medley team will consist of Aiken swimming the backstroke, Cowher swimming the butterfly, Friday swimming the breaststroke, and Cherry swimming the freestyle.

The girls 200 freestyle relay team will also consist of Friday, Aiken, Cowher, and Cherry.
