The Tyrone girls and boys swim team took on tough opponent Bellefonte on Friday December 12 at Tyrone’s Natatorium with a 102-60 victory for the girls team .  Bellefonte defeated the Tyrone boys team 104-35.

“Bellefonte has been a tough opponent of the girls team ever since my 9th grade year.  Everyone that was on the swim team last year knew going into the meet the other day that Bellfonte was going to be tough to beat since our girls team only beat the Bellefonte girls by on point last season. All the girls, new and old, did amazing to beat the Bellefonte girls,” said senior Mikayla Harris

The girls swept all three of the relay events , the 200 Yard Medley Relay, 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay and eight individual events (200 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM, 50 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Butterfly, 100, Yard Freestyle, 500 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Backstroke and the 100 Yard Breaststroke) on their way to victory.

“For the girls to come out with a victory was great. Bellefonte is a good team,” said head coach Tom Getz, “We were able to out-number them a little bit.”

Individual first place winners were senior Mikayla Harris in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:22:20, Junior Emily Beam in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:30:80, and and Senior Samantha Aungst in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:31:14.

The boys, hampered by a lack of swimmers, could not fill all their events but were able to win one of the three relays.

“We’ve got some good swimmers, on the boys side, just not enough of them,” said Getz, “but I think we’ll be able to bring four of them to districts.”

The Eagles next meet is December 22 at Northern Cambria High School at 4:00 pm.

The next home meet is January 19 2015 VS. Huntingdon @ 6:00 pm.
