As the weather is gets colder, the Tyrone Middle and High Ski and Snowboard Club is getting ready to hit the slopes. All they need is snow and a few new members.

The club takes four trips to the Blue Knob Ski Resort each Thursday in January, weather permitting. The bus leaves the parking lot above the track at 3 pm and returns to the front of the school at approximately 9:45 pm.

[The club] is for all levels of skiers and boarders. Blue Knob has a great beginner slope, and they provide lessons if one wishes to take them. There are all levels of terrain.

“[The club] is for all levels of skiers and boarders. Blue Knob has a great beginner slope, and they provide lessons if one wishes to take them. There are all levels of terrain. Several green slopes for beginners intermediate slopes, advanced slopes, and even a terrain park,” said Ski Club Adviser Dan Plummer.

The approximate cost to join the club is $130-$170 and depends on grade level and equipment needed.

This is a one-time payment that includes all four trips, the cost of equipment, lift tickets, and transportation. There is also an option to purchase ski or snowboard lessons. The lessons take place at the beginning of each night for the first hour. Blue Knob offers beginner and intermediate lessons.

Club members are guaranteed four trips. If the weather or snow conditions causes the resort to close, the trip will be postponed until a later date.

In order to sign up, interested students in grades six through twelve must fill out all paperwork and return it to the advisers by Friday, November 22 in order to avoid a $10 late fee.
