The Tyrone Boys Basketball Team defeated the Bellefonte Red Raiders 63-42 on Tuesday in a Mountain League Conference game.

The team continues to unselfishly spread the ball around; last night the Eagles had four double digit scorers. Junior Anthony Politza led the team with 15, senior Pooky Soellner scored 14, senior Shane Geis had 12, and senior Diddy Mitchell also reached double digits with 10 points.

“We started out a little slow in the first half, but after half-time, we woke up in the second half,” said Soellner, “but we really picked up the defense and the energy and that is what won us the game tonight.”

Tyrone ran into a little bit of trouble early in the first half with key players Anthony Politza and Tristan Lingafelt getting into foul trouble.  Coach George Gripp put the pair on the bench for some of the second and most of the third period.  This allowed the Red Raiders to stay in the game until the fourth quarter.

Tyrone was only up by 4 points at the beginning of the final period, but when senior Tristan Lingafelt and junior Anthony Politza reentered the game, Tyrone started battling back and out scored Bellefonte 23-6.

“I thought all-in-all every person I put in tonight did pretty well,” said Coach Gripp.

Tyrone extended their record to 8-1, with their only a road loss to Clearfield.

After Tuesdays night win, the Golden Eagles will next face Bald Eagle at home on Friday night.

When asked what his thoughts on Bald Eagle, Coach Gripp said “They have two or three good shooters…they know what we like to do and we know what they like to do, so it will come down to who is going to play hard, who’s going to play smart, and who’s going to execute. I just love our chances at home on Friday night.”
