Tyrone Blows Out the Mounties in Home Opener

Dylan “The Deacon” Thomas after his 34 point performance! #IcyFromEverywhere

Senior Dylan Thomas led the way for the Golden Eagles on Tuesday night with 34 in Tyrone’s 81-55 win over Philipsburg.

Thomas took advantage of a weak defense from the Mounties, draining 7 threes in the win. In his return to the hardwood, senior Jake Meredith added 14 points and 6 assists in the victory.

The first quarter was back and forth as the Eagles only had a three point lead heading into the second period. That’s when they really blew the door open on the game.

I liked the energy we had in this game. It was a fun game to be a part of. We need to build of this win and continue it into the next game

— Head coach George Gripp

The Golden Eagles turned good defense into even better offense. They outscored the Mounties 24-13 in the quarter taking a 41-27 lead into the half.

The second half was all Eagles. They came out of the break on a 10-2 run and really put the game away. Tyrone outscored Philipsburg 24-5 in the third quarter.

“Our defense was really the motor. The way we ran in this game and pushed the tempo is how we want to play every game,” said senior Noel Politza on his team’s performance.

The Eagles played most of the game with stud senior Parker Mitchell on the bench in foul trouble. You add him to the mix, and this could be a scary team in the making.

Tyrone’s reserves played most of the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles were able to come away with the lopsided victory.

Head coach George Gripp was happy with his team’s performance.

“I liked the energy we had in this game. It was a fun game to be a part of. We need to build of this win and continue it into the next game,” said Gripp.

Tyrone’s next game will be Friday 12/15 away against the Central Dragons.
