Residents, former FFA members, and community leaders have launched a new initiative to bolster agricultural education in the Tyrone area. They are forming a new FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter. This new group will provide current Tyrone Area FFA members with mentorship and logistical support.
An information session for interested alumni and supporters will be held on Monday, March 2, at 7 pm in the Tyrone Area High School Ag classroom, located at the back of the high school building in the vocational wing.
Former Tyrone Area FFA member Garin Hoy emphasized that anyone who supports the mission of the Tyrone Area FFA is invited to join, not just former TAHS FFA members.
“You don’t have to be a former FFA member to join,” said Hoy. “If you care about agriculture and supporting youth leadership, we want you involved.”
This aligns with the broader FFA Alumni and Supporters model, which welcomes any community member passionate about backing agricultural education.
While the local student FFA chapter has been a community staple, organizers recognize that a formal alumni and supporters chapter can offer assistance through volunteer time, mentorship, and support.
Alumni and supporter chapters can play a crucial role in gathering community support for FFA activities, providing advisors with a network of adults to aid in events, contests, and trips.
The chapter invites parents, former FFA members, and anyone interested in supporting agriculture to join.
