Beam and Everhart Take Top Honors at 16th Annual Tyrone Art Show

Scotti Everhart – Setting Sail

“Creativity is about the unexpected,” said Tyrone art teacher Eric Feather. And on Friday, April 22, 2016 the unexpected was on display as Tyrone Area High School held its 16th annual Art Show.

Sophomore Scotti Everhart won the Best of Show Award for her work titled Fallen Angel.

The Creative Excellence Award was won by senior Emily Beam for Work in Progress.  Beam was also honored with the Outstanding Senior Artist Award.

The show was judged by guest juror Peter Frantz, a nationally recognized artist, advocate and educator from Tyrone. Peter’s list of credentials include co-founder and CEO of FragilePeace, co-founder of Panzi Foundation USA, an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and is an adjunct professor of sculpture and drawing at Towson University. He has exhibited his own work nationally and internationally.

When asked about the qualities he looks for when judging artwork Frantz said, “Personality. All the skill in the world can’t hide a piece of art that lacks something deep of the creator.”

There were approximately 100 works on display. Winning entries selected by the juror recognized first through fifth place, eight merit awards and a special creativity award.

Top awards included cash prizes ranging from $100 to $20.

Viewers of the show also had the opportunity to “play juror” and vote for their favorite artwork from each grade. These “People’s Choice” awards are also listed below.

According to Feather, the competitive nature of the art show serves to motivate students to produce their best work. “It also peaks the interest of many who come to enjoy the work as they select their own favorite pieces,” said Feather.
