Over the next two weeks Tyrone boys basketball will play three conference matchups and a chance to build momentum.

After a surprise postponing of the game last Friday, Tyrone will gear up for battle against Penns Valley.

In the upcoming days, Tyrone will certainly be emphasizing defense, but will need to prepare several players for more minutes.

Junior Alex Weaver will be out for several weeks with a wrist fracture obtained during Tyrone’s consolation game against Penn Cambria in the Reliance Bank Kiwanis Tournament held over Christmas break.

Hopefully Weaver can recover for the final weeks of the season and playoffs, but in the meantime Parker Mitchell and Zack Soellner will benefit from the excess minutes.

Tomorrow, Tyrone will be tested when they face Penns Valley.

Penns Valley has traditionally been a very well coached defensive team that slows the game down.

“We have been able to dictate against Penns Valley the last couple years which has led to our success,” said senior Zack Soellner.

Penns Valley averages 55 pts per game which reflects their style of the play.

“Their playing style makes the game seem like you are watching grass grow, it really bores you,” said sophomore Noel Politza.

While it may be boring the style oftenly works. Penns Valley is 9-2 with their only conference loss going to Clearfield.

For Tyrone to get a win, the offense will need to be humming along with a stout defense.

Tyrone at 7-3 could potentially improve to 9-3 after Tuesday and needs a win to control their own destiny in the Mountain League.

This Friday Tyrone will face Phillipsburg at home for what will be a confidence booster.

In December Tyrone routed Phillipsburg 72-34.

As long as Tyrone comes to play against Phillipsburg they should improve heading into the weekend.
