Golden Eagles Get Revenge on Senior Night

The 2018 Tyrone Basketball and Cheerleader seniors

The Golden Eagles improved to 16-5 following their Senior Night win on Friday night against Penns Valley.

The boys were able to avenge a loss from the Rams the previous week with a 50-45 point win.

Senior Parker Mitchell led the Eagles with 18 points.

It was nice getting this win. Not only for the seniors, but we needed this one for seeding in the playoffs. We have to finish it out with a win on Monday

— Head Coach George Gripp

Tyrone handled the Rams slow paced game well as they jumped out to an early 12-8 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, however, Penns Valley executed their slow-paced game and took a one-point lead heading into the half.

“We weren’t nervous about being down at the half. We have been a third-quarter team all year and I had faith in my team to pull it out,” said senior Jake Meredith.

The Golden Eagles did just that. They scored the first 8 points of the quarter and didn’t look back. They took a 5 point leading going into the fourth.

In the fourth the game got interesting. Penns Valley scored a couple quick buckets and took a 45-42 lead late in the fourth.

Senior Jake Meredith hit a three to tie the game and gave the Eagles the momentum that they needed. Mitchell had a layup the following possession, and senior Dylan Thomas closed the game out with his clutch foul shooting.

“It was nice getting this win. Not only for the seniors, but we needed this one for seeding in the playoffs. We have to finish it out with a win on Monday,” said head coach George Gripp.

The Eagles finish out the game next Monday with a very big game against Bald Eagle.
