Football Preview: 2015 Juniors vs. Seniors Powderpuff Edition

The annual Juniors vs. Seniors girls flag football showdown is this Wednesday night. Don’t miss it!

Tyrone High’s annual PowderPuff game between the junior and senior girls will be held on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 pm at Gray Field.

Last year the juniors dominated the seniors with a final score of 22-14.

This year, despite the fact that the seniors have had player turnout issues during practice, their coaches are confident that the winning streak will continue.

Seniors don’t even need to show up to practice, we’re just that good

— Senior Coach Zack Soellner

“Seniors don’t even need to show up to practice, we’re just that good,” said senior Defensive Coach Zack Soellner.

The coaches are confident on their coaching abilities as well.

“The junior coaches ain’t got nothing on our senior coaches, Yee! Yee!” said Soellner.

Senior Defensive Coordinator John Chronister is confident about his senior’s game plan.

“The junior coaches look up to us because men want to be us, women want to be with us, and kids adore us,” said Chronister.

According to the players, practices on the senior end have been running smoothly.

“Our team gets along very well. When everyone comes to practice, we just click. We work in synergy,” said senior wide receiver Erika Voyzey.

Voyzey’s main goal in this game, as in life, is to “just have fun.”

“We devised formations and plays that the seniors are confident that the juniors will not be able to cover,” said Chronister.

The seniors may have a year’s experience under their belt, but the juniors are confident in their skills.

The senior coaches aren’t going to know what hit them. The juniors are ready to make their worst nightmares a reality

— Junior Coach AJ Grassi

The juniors think the current seniors may be suffering from a case of over-confidence based on their upset win over the seniors last year.

“The senior coaches aren’t going to know what hit them. The juniors are ready to make their worst nightmares a reality,” said junior Coach AJ Grassi.

Junior player numbers have been exponentially growing and according to their coaches, the enthusiasm is high.

“Our practices might be disorganized at times, but the passion and motivation our girls possess is nothing less than impressive,” said Grassi.

Junior Coach Kenny McKernan is excited to see how his team performs.

“All I can say is get your popcorn ready, cause the juniors are gonna put on a show,” said McKernan.

The junior players have the same confidence level when it comes to the game.

“October 28 will be the day we break the record,” said junior Alexis Cannistraci, referring to the fact that no junior team has ever beat a senior team that won as juniors.

Both teams are excited.  It should be an interesting game. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm.
